July 2015 Newsletter

STAFF NEWS

It is with great sadness to inform you of Miss Nazish’s resignation.Miss Naz will finish at Hunny Pots ELC on Friday 24th July due to a variety of personal reasons. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Naz for her 10.5 years at Hunny Pots – her dedication, love and care will be greatly missed. We will have a special afternoon tea for Miss Naz on Friday 24th July 2.30-3.30pm. We are however, very excited to announce that Miss Natalie will be returning from maternity leave to replace Miss Naz. Miss Natalie will start on Tuesday 28th July and work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (4 days per week) 8-5pm.

SCHOOL READINESS FOR FAMILIESMONDAY 27th JULY – 7pm @ Hunny Pots ELC

This year we will be providing a School Readiness Seminar with a guest speaker Danielle Mantakoul from EC Professionals.

Danielle has come to our centre in previous years to discuss behaviour management strategies and school readiness.

Her seminars have always been very informative and very entertaining!

Hunny Pots will be funding the cost of Danielle’s visit.

We invite ALL Tiggers and Pooh’s Corner families to come along.

Save the date! Please – No children to be present.

NEW MENU

Our new menu is now being implemented.

Please have a look at the kitchen wall where the menu is displayed to see our exciting new changes.

All changes made are in accordance with the new dietary guidelines.

We are very proud of the children’s easy transition to wholemeal pasta and brown rice!

ILLNESS

We would like to take this opportunity to thank families for supporting us with reducing the spread of infection.

We have noticed many families keeping their children home to rest and recover. This is very much appreciated.

Please remember, if your child has Panadol or Nurofen in their system, they are not to come to Hunny Pots. You are only masking the symptoms and the illness will spread to other children and our educators.

We are able to administer prescribed antibiotics (after your child has been taking it for 24hours), you will need to complete a medication form (near the sign in/out sheets in foyer).

We are unable to administer any over the counter medication at Hunny Pots eg: cough mixtures etc.

We are only able to administer Panadol at Hunny Pots if a child has a temperature of 38 degrees or above and with parent consent.

If your child presents any illness symptoms, we will call you to arrange an immediate pick up.

Our policy does state that any child that has been sent home from Hunny Pots with a high temperature (over 38) or vomiting/diarrhea needs to stay home for the next 24 hours.

We will also give you a courtesy call if your child is feeling “off” – no immediate pick up is needed.

There is an interesting article from the Raising Children Network website regarding Colds (illness). It’s an informative read and handy to know in Winter. http://raisingchildren.net.au/articles/colds.html

OUTDOOR PLAY IN WINTER

“Colds are more common in the winter months. Cold weather by itself doesn’t increase the chance of getting a cold, but people are in closer contact with each other because they stay indoors. This means they’re more likely to infect each other”. Quoted from the article link.

This is why we monitor the weather and in suitable conditions, we go outside for our physical play.

Please ensure your child has suitable clothing to wear outside eg: jacket, jumper, long pants etc and is able to remove their jacket etc inside.

EYE TEST FOR POOH’S CORNER CHILDREN

Our NSW Health Eye Testing for Pooh’s Corner children will be available on Monday 27th July and Tuesday 28th July. If your child doesn’t attend on these days, we encourage you to choose one of these days to come along for this appointment.

Two nurses will come out to conduct the assessments. They will complete paperwork on the day for the teachers to pass onto families.

We have had fantastic feedback about this service in previous years and we are pleased to be able to offer such services for school readiness screening.

Permission forms are in your parent pocket.

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN

Woolworths Earn and Learn sticker promotion is happening again!

It starts on Wednesday 15th July and closes on Tuesday 8th September.

Please ask for the stickers when shopping and pass them onto the office – we truly appreciate them!!!!

Please let your family know to get on board collecting as many as possible! Previously we have been able to redeem the stickers for educational equipment through Modern Teaching Aids.

PORTFOLIO WEEK

A very big thank you to the families who have looked at their child’s portfolio and responded back with comments, we look forward to implementing the future goals that you have requested. It was lovely to receive such feedback that encourages our teachers – sincere thanks and a genuine appreciation of the work that the teacher’s do. THANK YOU!
