August 2017 Newsletter

RE ENROLMENTS DUE

Re enrolments are due for 2018 by Friday 18th August. All existing enrolments need to complete this form to let us know your requirements for 2018.

NO NOTICE PERIOD TO WITHDRAW/REDUCE DAYS IN DECEMBER OR JANUARY

Poohs Corner enrolments cease at the end of the calendar year eg: last day at Hunny Pots 22nd December.

You will receive confirmation in September 2017. Update of bonds are due by Wednesday 20th September 2017 to secure your child’s days of attendance for 2018.

Reducing confirmed days after the “Bond due date” and before your child starts (eg: reducing days from 5 days to 2 days) will mean you to forfeit your bond for the days reduced.

Your child’s current enrolment pattern must be ongoing throughout 2017 to maintain your confirmed 2018 enrolment. Any notice / withdrawal / reduction will void this confirmation.

LATE FEE FOR LATE PAYMENTS

We will need to look into introducing a late fee for invoices outstanding past the fortnight.

We are having ongoing issues with outstanding balances after the invoice period.

We will be monitoring this closely and networking with other services to see how they encourage prompt payments to help the centre operations.

We thank families who pay their invoice within the invoice period.

PHOTOS

Our photo days were very successful. Our photographer Britney was great with the children and took her time to get the best photo.

Between Sandy on Wednesday and Monique on Thursday observing and assisting the sessions to run smoothly, we were very happy with the time to get the ‘best’ photo.

Some children were serious, but a photo of them was taken the best of circumstances.

We have been told it is a 4-6 week turn around.

We look forward to seeing these photos!

TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY

It is a very normal developmental stage for children to tell you ‘stories’ or tell their friends ‘stories’.

They do it using their imagination, or based on true events. They also do it to see the response they will receive. As part of our teaching, we listen to stories attentively and with no bias.

We keep our body language and voice neutral and calm.

Children will sometimes tell a story to get the response.

If you need clarification on a ‘story’ please don’t hesitate to ask one of our educators. We always believe it is best to hear both sides.

This is mentioned with a ‘funny’ intent – of funny stories. No serious matters have been involved.

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN IS BACK!

Starting on Wednesday 26th July to the 19th September 2017, for every $10 spent at Woolworths you will earn a sticker.

Please place the stickers in the labeled “Hunny Pots ELC” box at Glenwood Woolworths or bring in these stickers to Hunny Pots ELC as they help us to ‘buy’ resources!

Thank you in advance.

ILLNESS

Thank you to our families for keeping unwell children at home. We have had a supportive response from families this year of not sending unwell children to Hunny Pots. There has been more absent children than children unwell whilst at the centre. This is fantastic to see and we truly appreciate it.

FATHER’S AFTERNOON TEA

We would like to invite all our fathers to come along for an afternoon tea with their child/ren on Thursday 1st September from 2.30-4.00PM. (afternoon tea 2.30-3pm – play 3-4pm)

This year we will have construction and sports play with the father’s. Please come along to spend some quality time with your child.

If your child doesn’t attend on Thursdays, you are welcome to join us for the afternoon tea/ play with your child/ren.

We will send out an invite shortly and there will be an RSVP list in the foyer soon so we can cater accordingly.

PROVIDING FRUIT AND VEGETABLES

A friendly reminder for all Tigger’s and Pooh’s Corner families to bring a piece of fruit in each day their child attends.

You are encouraged to alternate between vegetables and fruit that can be eaten raw – to be added to our fruit and vegetable platters for morning and afternoon tea.

BIRTH CERTIFICATES AND CURRENT IMMUNISATION STATEMENTS.

If you have immunised your child recently e.g.: 1yr immunisation, 18mth chicken pox immunisation, 4yr old immunisation, please provide us with the updated record of this immunisation.

We must have a copy of your child’s up to date immunisation status on the premises.

No immunisation = no enrolment. This is a government regulation.

Also, please provide us with a copy of your child’s birth certificate.

Please check with the office if you are unsure if we have these documents.

OUR LEARNING FRAMEWORK-

Everyday our educators spend a lot of time writing/typing up the curriculum plan and daily diary to show families what we have been doing with your children throughout the day.

Our daily diary includes our Learning stories, weekend book extensions etc. This is located in our foyer.

The curriculum planner is with us at all times. It starts in Tiggers place in the morning for all rooms to write up experiences. When Eeyores transition to their room at 8am, their planner goes to their room with them and returns to Eeyores at 5pm. Likewise, Tiggers stays in their room and Poohs corner starts and finishes in Tiggers but goes to their room when they have separated from Tiggers.

This documents children’s learning, spontaneous experiences, learning stories and assists with future planning. We encourage families to take the time to read their child’s room planner and contribute to the program and/or offer feedback.

Families who write in the weekend book see their child’s interest develop into a fun learning experience. It enriches the children’s learning as families are able to discuss this learning with their children.

Thank you to those families who contribute – our programming is better for it! This assists in motivating our educators, knowing that families read their hard work.

If you haven’t read the curriculum planner before – please take this opportunity to stop for

1-2 minutes and read about your child’s day. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

SAFETY SKILLS WEEK FOR EDUCATORS

The week of (21st-25th August) we will be having Staff Safety Skills week. This is a fun way to keep up to date on our first aid and safety skills. Our educators will have a spontaneous fire drill, safety checks (safe items to be found when checking the yard each morning), practice first aid (broken ankle), practice first aid for a pretend anaphylaxis reaction. ALL PRETEND DRILLS.

LABELLING YOUR CHILD’S BELONGINGS

Please ensure all items are labeled e.g.: drink bottles, clothing, hats etc. It is very difficult to rely on staff to know who belongs to what each day (we have 115 children each week!)

This is also a great task for Pooh’s Corner to achieve – looking after their belongings for school readiness.

SCHOOL READINESS TALK – PARKLEA PUBLIC SCHOOL

On Tuesday 8th August from 6-6.30pm, Parklea Public School will come to Hunny Pots to discuss school readiness and their school.

We had Holy Cross attend on the 25th July and we have invited Caddies Creek for an evening also (yet to hear back)

DO TERRA OILS

Monique is a Do Terra wellness advocate. If you would like to order any oils, Monique places an order at the beginning of each month.
